VA Democrats: Read Cuccinelli's Book Before Election Day
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's new book "The Last Line of Defense" is now on store shelves, and among those celebrating its release is a group you might not expect - Virginia Democrats.
While Cuccinelli is using the book as a way to fire up his conservative base ahead of Election Day, Democrats are hoping the same text will cast a negative light on the presumed Republican nominee. They held a public reading Tuesday morning, highlighting excerpts from the book. They attacked Cuccinelli's stance against healthcare reform, and his seeming opposition to Medicare and Social Security. The Cuccinelli campaign maintains some of the excerpts in question were taken out of context.
Democratic Party of Virginia Chair Charniele Herring disagrees with the book's message, but says she hopes voters will read it before Election Day.
"I think it's important that Virginians read the book so that they understand the extremism of Ken Cuccinelli," Herring said.
In a statement, Cuccinelli's campaign manager Dave Rexrode said, "It's unfortunate that Democrats in Richmond spent more time this morning reading Ken Cuccinelli's book than working to fix some of the serious problems facing Virginia today. Once again Democrats have decided to cherry-pick statements in an attempt to scare seniors and voters for political gain. The Democrats continue to play political games rather than provide any substantive plans to move Virginia forward and it's unfortunate for everyone in Virginia."
