Campus Cookie Serves Up Late Night Sweet Treats

Posted: Updated:

Like any other college town, Charlottesville has plenty of late night eateries offering up the usual pizza and hamburgers. If you want something a little sweeter, your selection is limited to donuts from a 24 hour coffee shop. Now, a new business is changing that.

Campus Cookies delivers cookies and other baked goods between 6 p.m. and the early morning hours every day during the school year. They have nearly 30 varieties of cookies, including seasonal specialties, plus brownies and other sweets. All the treats are delivered warm.

Scott Davidson started the business while he was a sophomore at James Madison University. "It was just myself running deliveries all around Harrisonburg, just myself and one oven," he said.

At just 25-years-old, he now has three store locations: in Harrisonburg for JMU students, in Blacksburg for Virginia Tech students, and the newest store location that just opened last semester in Charlottesville, near the University of Virginia. "I believe Charlottesville (is good) because of the synergy from the three schools," Davidson said.

To connect to his market base of hungry college students, Scott maintains a big web presence. He uses Facebook, online games, and smart phone apps which have paid off big; 95% of his orders are through the Internet.

"When it comes to what we do, there's a lot of value-added things online," he said.

The company also sends texts to people about the location of their baked goods.

Despite all the high-tech marketing, his business model is simple: pre-made cookie dough, baked and delivered late-night while still warm. It's something students can appreciate.

"I don't think UVA is the last stop for us. I do think we have potential to go other places, it's just a matter of making sure we have the right people on board," Davidson said.

And he's serving more than just cookies to UVA students. "We bring smiles and happiness."

His biggest day of the year is just around the corner. Last year on Valentine's Day both Campus Cookie locations in Harrisonburg and Blacksburg sold out. Davidson expects the same amount of business this year as people buy sweets for the sweet ones in their life. So far the Charlottesville location hasn't sold out, and he is still taking orders. Campus Cookie will be opened all day on Valentine's Day for deliveries.
