#20 Delaware Ends JMU's 8-Game Win Streak

Posted: Updated:

The James Madison women's basketball team lost 71-64 Sunday at home against #20 Delaware, ending the Dukes' eight game win streak.

The Blue Hens have won 15 games in a row, and the seven-point victory is the teams smallest against a CAA opponent this season.

A win by JMU (15-8, 9-2 CAA) would have moved them into a tie for first place in the conference with Delaware (20-3, 11-0).

The Blue Hens were led by senior forward Elena Delle Donne and her 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Delle Donne became the fourth player in the last five years to break the CAA scoring record, as her 2,677 points pushed her past JMU's Dawn Evans (2011), who held the former conference mark of 2,667.

JMU junior Kirby Burkholder led all scorers with 24 points, and also grabbed 13 rebounds.

The double-double is Burkholder's fifth of the season.

James Madison will return to action Tuesday at 7 pm at Old Dominion.
