Fluvanna County SPCA Seeing Pet Adoptions Increase

Posted: Updated:

Some furry friends are finding loving homes after the Fluvanna County SPCA'S outing in Charlottesville Sunday.

The SPCA set up at the Petco store. The group tries to get puppies out of the shelter as fast as possible and Sunday all five dogs and two cats found forever homes from the outing.

The Fluvanna SPCA has seen an uptick in adoptions of younger animals this month after a slow January.

"We think some of the reasons might be is it's cold outside and you want something nice and snuggly warm, there's Valentine's Day coming up and maybe people are just now starting to think again after they've gotten through the stress of the holidays about how wonderful it would be to have a new little friend in their house," said Jennie Shuklis of the Fluvanna SPCA.

The shelter had nine cat adoptions and two dog adoptions last week. The SPCA says that's a high number for the small shelter.
