Man Arrested After Assaulting Charlottesville Police Officer

Charlottesville police arrested a man who they say hit one of their on-duty officers.

Mert Mafa, 22, is charged with assault and battery on law enforcement.

Charlottesville police say Mafa shoved an officer in the forehead when he tried to break up a fight in the 300 block of Second Street shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.

No one was seriously injured.

Mafa is out on bond as of Saturday night.
