Salvation Army and Area Podiatrists Host Annual Shoe Drive

Posted: Updated:

The Salvation Army and Charlottesville podiatrists teamed up Saturday afternoon to put shoes on the feet of people in need.

Shoe shoppers flooded the Salvation Army's gym to sort through and try on hundreds of pairs of donated shoes. They loaded bags full of footwear for free.

"You can find shoes, some good really nice shoes that ordinarily you couldn't afford to buy," said Gloria Beard, a shoe shopper. "It's a combination of different types of shoes - winter, summer, spring, whatever."

This was the 22nd annual "Shoes for the Homeless" shoe drive. Over the years, the Salvation Army and Charlottesville podiatrists have given away more than 90,000 pairs of shoes.
