The Virginia women's basketball team lost to Duke for the 20th consecutive game 62-41 at John Paul Jones Arena Friday.

The 'Hoos led in the first half - but the Blue Devils went on a 21-5 run spanning both halves to get out in front.

The spurt turned a 22-13 deficit into a 34-27 lead.

Virginia got as close as 4 points (34-30) but Duke hit 9 of the next 11 points to ice the win.

The Cavaliers shot poorly going 26.7 percent (16-60) from the field and had 21 turnovers.

Head coach Joanne Boyle said, "we left too many points out there. Somebody told me we had 16 missed lay-ups. So if you're gonna leave that margin out there, a great team like that is gonna capitalize. I thought we cleaned up everything we talked about from the Georgia Tech game. Thought we came out and played hard. I thought we rebounded well. We defended pretty well. We had some momentum going but you cant leave those kind of shots out there."

Ataira Franklin led the Cavaliers with 15 points.

Virginia will continue conference play as they take on Virginia Tech Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.
