Charlottesville Optometrists Offer Free Eye Exams for Students

Posted: Updated:

Bad eyesight can make learning difficult, and for some families, the cost of an eye exam and glasses for students is prohibitive. Friday, Record and Record Optometrists provided free eye exams for students whose families cannot afford them at both of their locations in Charlottesville.

Dr. Carol Record says over the years she and her husband have seen an increased need for eye exams and glasses for students.

The "See Virginia" event provided both an eye exam and free pair of glasses to almost 30 students. The Essilor Vision Foundation provided the free eyeglasses.

Record says good eyesight is especially important for students because it ties into their ability to learn. "Most of our learning occurs through vision, we need to be able to see the blackboard in school, or the dry-erase board in school, and we also need to be able to read books," she said.

According to Record, school nurses got the word out about the free exams. The doctors say they hope to make "See Virginia" an annual event.
