On Monday, Feb 4, investigators received a report of a sexual assault that had occurred over the weekend. The juvenile victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted by an adult male in an apartment complex located in the 1200 Block of Devon Lane. The investigation revealed that the suspect and victim were acquaintances through school, but did not have a previous relationship prior to the assault.
On Tuesday, Feb 5, investigators charged Weylin Holmes, 18, of Harrisonburg with the following;
- Two felony counts of forcible sodomy (18.2-67.1)
- One felony count of rape (18.2-61)
- One felony count of abduction (18.2-47)
"This type of crime is serious in nature and something that the Harrisonburg Police Department will commit to solving in order to ensure the safety of the victim and the community. It is a priority of the Department to make sure the youth in our community are safe." says Lt. Chris Rush, Division Commander of the Harrisonburg Police Department.
