WAYNESBORO, VA (AP) - A dog that was shot during a home invasion in Staunton has been euthanized.
Boss the pit bull was put down this week at the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center in Lyndhurst.
The 55-pound dog was shot during a home invasion on July 9. The shooting prompted an outpouring of donations for the dog's care at Westwood Animal Hospital.
Owner Shannon Baber later moved to Waynesboro. The News Leader reports the dog recovered but had bitten several people and was declared to be dangerous. A Waynesboro animal control officer persuaded Baber to turn over the dog to be euthanized.
