Augusta School Board to Move Some Cassell Students to Wilson

Posted: Updated:

Three public hearings and one year later Augusta County School Board members have decided on new boundary lines.

The school board's decision to close Ladd Elementary School forced redistricting. They had everything worked out, except for where to place 100 Cassell students living in the Emerald Hill and Wyndham Hill subdivisions.

Board members unanimously voted Thursday night to move those students to Wilson Elementary School – but not without hearing from the public one last time.

Parent Calvin Jordan said, "I know it's selfish of me to come up here and want to keep my kid in the school he's in and want my other kid to go there too. But I have to do what's right for my kid and I feel it's right for him to stay in Hugh K. Cassell."

A few school board members said the decision came down to money.

Rising fifth-graders with younger siblings can request to stay at their current schools for one year.
