The number of people signing up for online classes at the University of Virginia is skyrocketing.
More than 55,000 people have signed up for "Foundations of Business Strategy." The class is offered through Coursera and the Darden School of Business. The 6-week course teaches students how to do a strategic analysis of a firm.
Online classes are part of UVA's eventual goal to generate more money.
"At the end of the day, what we're seeing is, technology is evolving in a way that's opening up opportunities for learning that go, extend beyond the classroom as we know it, asynchronous learning," said Michael Lenox, who teaches the course.
The class will also help entrepreneurs and nonprofits. For their final project, students will conduct a free analysis for an organization.
