Family Homeless After Overnight Fire in Augusta

Posted: Updated:

A family of three is left homeless after an overnight fire in Augusta County.

One person was home at the time, and reported the blaze about 1 a.m. Thursday. The house along East Side Highway, south of Grottoes, was destroyed. No one was hurt. Firefighters say the fire might have started in the basement, but they have not officially determined the cause.

Property records show the house dates back to 1881, when it was originally built as the Harriston School.
