Former Albemarle Police Lieutenant to Serve 10 days for Embezzlement

Posted: Updated:

A former Albemarle County police lieutenant will spend ten days in jail for embezzling public funds.

Police say Ernie Allen took $380 from petty cash. The police chief says an audit revealed the missing money. Allen resigned in December, after 27 years on the force, and repaid the money.

The charge was originally a felony, but Allen pleaded guilty to a lesser misdemeanor charge. He was sentenced to 30 days, but 20 days were suspended.

Police say Allen may have been experiencing financial troubles.
