A gold-medal Olympic swimmer from the University of Virginia is being honored on National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The UVA Women's Center and Athletics department held a reception Sunday morning to recognize fourth-year student Lauren Perdue. She was part of a gold-medal winning relay at last summer's Olympic Games in London.
Perdue says she is proud to represent women in sports.
"Today is so exciting for me, to be honored by the Women's Center and by Jane Miller, and athletics is just great and representing the women in athletics around the world is really an honor to me, and sports has always been really important to me and I know other women feel the same way," Perdue said. "So it's really great to represent that and represent women in sports."
Perdue was recognized a second time Sunday - during halftime at the UVA women's basketball game.
