UVA Basketball Teams Will Battle Georgia Tech Sunday
Both the Virginia men's and women's basketball teams will square off against Georgia Tech on Sunday.
With Duke beating Florida State by 19 points Saturday in Tallahassee, the Virginia men's basketball team is now a half-game behind the Blue Devils for second place in the ACC standings.
UVA will look to even things up Sunday, as the Cavaliers go on the road to face Georgia Tech.
The Wahoos have won five-straight games against the Yellow Jackets, including four in a row on the road.
Virginia is third in the nation in scoring defense, and haven't allowed an ACC opponent to reach 60 points in seven conference games this year.
The Cavaliers (15-2, 5-2 ACC) are coming off a big upset of North Carolina State, and head coach Tony Bennett says the 'Hoos have to be careful of a letdown.
"My hope is the experience we've had in the past, and the mindset of our guys trying to keep improving will guard from that," says Bennett. "Knowing that you're never guaranteed anything when you step on the floor. Just because you've won a couple, or you've played good ball. It doesn't guarantee it."
UVA is on a four-game winning streak, and while Georgia Tech is just 1-6 in the league, Bennett says his team can't take the Yellow Jackets lightly.
"Their record probably isn't as indicative of the caliber of play, especially in their last two games, and the fact that they're at home," says Bennett. "A lot of these games we were fortunate to win, and they could have gone the other way. But you can also say that for some of the ones we've lost. That keeps you pretty humble, and keeps you where you need to be."
Virginia and Georgia Tech will tip-off Sunday three o'clock in Atlanta.
The UVA women's basketball team will also be taking on Georgia Tech Sunday, but the Cavalier women will do it at home.
The teams have already played once this season, a 62-51 UVA win in Atlanta.
The Wahoos have won five of their last six games, and are 27-1 all-time in Charlottesville against the Yellow Jackets.
Virginia is 6-3 in the ACC, while Georgia Tech is 2-8.
The teams will tip-off Sunday at one o'clock at John Paul Jones Arena.
