Staunton is getting more money to improve its downtown area.
The Staunton Downtown Development Association (SDDA) has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Virginia Main Street program.
The money will provide a seasonal stage complete with a canopy, lighting and sound. It's intended for the parking lot across from Sunspots Studios.
"To help him pilot a program where in the eyes of the community he can establish that spot as a performance area downtown, In hopes that he'll be able to do a more permanent installation later on. And then the stage is going to be free to maybe be moved to somewhere else to create another venue," said Julie Markowitz, a member of the SDDA.
SDDA was awarded a $25,000 grant from the same program last year. It used a good chunk of that money to improve lighting in the wharf.
