The Monticello HS girls basketball team improved to 8-0 in the Jefferson District with a 45-43 win at home against Western Albemarle Molly Shephard's put-back at the buzzer was the game winner.
The win kept Monticello in sole possession of first place in the JD. Western Albemarle falls to 6-2 in the district. Monticello was led by Cierra Hall with 12 points. Shephard had 10 points and Meghan Comer had 9.
Monticello led by six at halftime. Western Albemarle took its first lead of the second half late in the fourth quarter on a bucket by Anna Sumpter. Western never led by more than two in the second half.
Western Albemarle was led by Sumpter and Bridget Shaffrey with 11 points each in the loss.
