Starting this February 1, you have the chance to nominate outstanding senior volunteers for their service to the community. Sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care, the Salute to Senior Service Program recognizes those 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.
The owner of Charlottesville's office, Jeanne McCusker, says the volunteers are silent heroes.
"Seniors do so much and they are not in it for the recognition. A lot of folks when they're younger they're building resumes and other things, seniors are doing it because they truly believe in the cause," said McCusker.
"People say, 'How do you do it?,' but it's wonderful. We get so much joy out of it. It's wonderful," said Violet Crawford, SPCA volunteer.
Home Instead Incorporated will donate $500 dollars to each of the state winners' favorite non-profits, and $5,000 to the national winner's.
