Congressman Robert Hurt is touring the fifth district during a brief break from the debt crisis work in Washington. Hurt hosted constituents in his Albemarle County office Wednesday to talk about a range of topics, from gun control to the housing market.
Hurt is also visiting businesses along the way. Hurt says small business owners are concerned about over-regulation and looming spending cuts that could impact central Virginia's defense industry.
"I do think it's an opportunity. I think it's critical as we go back next week that all of us work to try to find common ground to figure out how we make these cuts in a sensible way," said Hurt.
Hurt hopes those final cuts will not disproportionately target the military.
