Press Release

Louisa, VA – Today, Louisa County Commonwealth's Attorney, Rusty McGuire, announced the conviction of Holly R. Bennett-Martinski, from Bumpass, Virginia, on five counts of embezzlement. She pleaded guilty, without an agreement, to all five counts.

From 2008 until 2011 the defendant handled the books for three small companies. During that period she paid the bills of the business using QuickBooks. The QuickBooks entries appeared legitimate. The company became suspicious about the profits and hired an auditor. Martinski immediately resigned her position. The auditor followed the trail and determined the checks were in fact written to Martinski or to her husband for a total of $187,714.67.

On speaking on her conviction McGuire said "in these tough economic times businesses are just trying to stay afloat. To know one of the people that you trusted with the keys to your castle is robbing you is heartbreaking."
