‘Songs for Kids Foundation’ Performs at UVA Children’s Hospital

Some musicians touring the country made a very special stop in Charlottesville. The Songs for Kids Foundation had kids, parents and staff at the University of Virginia Children's Hospital jamming to some tunes.

Musicians Josh Rifkin and Sanjay Kothari kicked off their tour last week. A handful of kids and their families came out to a special performance on Tuesday, playing instruments and singing along to songs like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "The Itsy Bitsy Spider."

Kothari says their mission is to lift the families' spirits and bring smiles to their faces.

"One of the big things is if you're a kid and you're at a children's hospital, that's the last place you want to be and if you're here for extended stays or if you have to be isolated, it can be really, really tough so we want to come here and give them something fun to do, allow their families to create some memories while they're here," Kothari said.

The foundation was founded in 2007 and is mostly funded by donations. They will be stopping at children's hospitals in the southeast for the next month. The tour is scheduled to extend into October.
