Albemarle Agribusiness Conference Promotes Eating Local

Posted: Updated:

Farmers and foodies from around central Virginia are gathering to promote the idea of eating local. More than 80 people came out to Albemarle County's first Agribusiness Marketing Conference Monday.

There were stations set up to give out information and panel discussions to talk agribusiness development and strategies.

One delegation traveled all the way from Louisiana for the event and say they hope to hold a similar conference soon.

"There's really no central location to go and learn and gather all the information and the tools required and necessary to be able to promote AG products, especially to the local farmer.  This is a great resource.  This is a one-stop shop today to learn anything and everything to promote their items, whatever it may be," said David Sickey, member of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana.

A delegation member from Louisiana says one area of interest for them is the success of the numerous farmers markets in Charlottesville and central Virginia.
