Freshmen Help JMU Defeat Old Dominion

Posted: Updated:

The James Madison men's basketball team swept the season series from Old Dominion for the first time since 2000, and just the third time ever, as the Dukes beat the Monarchs 56-46 Saturday at the Convocation Center.

Freshman guards Andre Nation, Ron Curry and Charles Cooke combined to score 32 points for JMU against ODU.

Nation led all players with 14 points along with a career-high eight rebounds.

Curry added 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Curry said, "I'm definitely more confident then I was in the beginning of the season, but that just goes with playing more and more. So I think someone that's been playing a lot around this time should be confident."

Cooke nailed a pair a second half three off the bench to help complete the 32 point freshmen effort.

"They're talented young guys," says JMU head coach Matt Brady.  "They are really engaged in the process of winning basketball games.  They came to JMU with the intention of being a part of a winning program. They're getting a great opportunity, but they're having success with that opportunity."

The Dukes have a quick turnaround, as JMU returns to action Monday, January 28 at UNC-Wilmington.

Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
