UVA Student Newspaper Going Biweekly

Posted: Updated:

University of Virginia's student newspaper will no longer be a daily print publication. The Cavalier Daily announced Friday that it will scale back to printing just twice a week starting in August.

They want to adopt more of a 24/7 news cycle by focusing on efforts like mobile apps, a daily email newsletter, and more multimedia content.

"One of the reasons that we did it is because we kind of understand that students are consuming their news in different way now.  They're not looking to pick up a paper. They might pick it up, read the headlines and put it back down but what they're looking to get is short, digestable news - tweets, stories that go online as soon as events happen," said Managing Editor Kaz Komolafe.

Komolafe says the design of the biweekly paper will be more of a tabloid format. It will include more in-depth stories and feature pieces.
