Hokies Introduce New Offensive Coordinator

Posted: Updated:

The Virginia Tech Football team is starting from scratch after the Hokies worst season in two decades

Head coach Frank Beamer says, "The bottom line is we just weren't as efficient as we needed to be."

After finishing 81st nationally in both total offense and scoring, the Hokies hired three new offensive coaches, including Auburn's offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler, to turn Tech's offense around.

Loeffler says, "We understand that Virginia Tech has always played great defense. They've always played great special teams. We need to be able to have an offense that will be able to run the football effectively, play action pass, be productive on third down."

Beamer adds, "New ideas, new people, new personalities, I think there's a freshness there."

Loeffler comes in with loads of experience, having coached 15 seasons in the NFL and in college.

Most notably, he's helped mold big names like Tom Brady and Tim Tebow.

Loeffler says, "The marriage between what they've done in the past and what we want to do in the future is excellent."

Loeffler struggled at Auburn with an inexperienced team that finished 112th in scoring, but he says he's only looking forward, and Beamer has his back.

"I'm at Virginia Tech now and I think to talk about what happened at Auburn is unfair," says Loeffler.

Beamer says, "It's the circumstances, sometimes the players you got. Who's who. I think you gotta take in what's real. And are you a good coach? Are you what you're looking for, or not so? I'm thoroughly convinced."
