The Wildlife Center in Waynesboro has euthanized a peregrine falcon that's been a popular educational mascot.
The falcon known as "Chayton" was rescued two years ago from Chesapeake after it suffered a broken wing. It could not fly well enough to return to the wild, so it took part in more than 100 educational programs.
But Chayton was suffering from a foot condition that persisted even after four surgeries.
Wildlife center vets finally euthanized the bird on Thursday.
