Virginia Beats Virginia Tech at Cassell Coliseum 74-58
The UVa men's basketball team got a career high 18 points from Evan Nolte in a convincing win over in-state rival Virginia Tech 74-58 Thursday night.
Nolte hit five 3-pointers in the game. He and Joe Harris combined to bury nine of Virginia's season high 11 3-pointers. Harris scored 12 of his 17 points in the first half. Virginia had a 24-2 run in the first half and never trailed after that. Virginia led by double digits the entire second half. Virginia ended up making 11 of 23 shots from 3-point range.
Coach Tony Bennett said, "23 threes is a lot but for the most part they were open but we'll take it. We try to play to our strengths which gives us our best chance. If that means we're scoring 50, 60, or 70 we'll take what the defense gives us.
Erick Green had a career high 35 points for Virginia Tech in the loss.
Virginia improves to 3-2 in the ACC. Virginia Tech drops to 2-3.
