It's Islam Awareness Week at a Staunton College. A Pakistani woman traveled thousands of miles to clear up misconceptions about the religion.
Professor Nasreen Akhtar teaches political science at the International Islamic University in Islamabad. Akhtar spoke to students at Mary Baldwin College Thursday night about what Islam is. She describes Islam principals based on kindness, peace, love, tolerance, justice and equality.
"If some people are going to disfigure Islam they have nothing to do with Islam. Rather I will say they are not Muslims, because a Muslim cannot be a terrorist," said Akhtar.
Akhtar also says it is the state that has failed to provide equality for Pakistani women, not Islam.
