University of Virginia professors got an insider's look at some cutting-edge technology Thursday.
The digital media lab hosted an open house to show off high-tech gadgets and teach professors how to incorporate them into their classrooms.
Teachers checked out three-dimensional printing, iPhone video technology that can create 3-D models on a computer, and a motion capture suit.
"What technology allows you to do is put the tools in the hands of the students and allow them to access the data that they're looking at maybe it's in text, maybe it's in structured data, maybe it's in maps and get down to the building blocks of that knowledge, take it apart, put it together in new ways and effectively do research type activities even when they're in the process of learning," said David Germano, a UVA professor.
These technologies encourage students to participate in class, instead of listening to a long lecture.
