Augusta Board of Supervisors Discusses Fire Department Staffing
The Churchville Volunteer Fire Department was a hot topic again at Augusta County Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday.
A few weeks ago, Staunton Fire Department responded first to a garage fire in Churchville. Wednesday, a former Churchville fireman went before Augusta County Supervisors asking for 24/7 paid staff at the Churchville Fire Department.
Morris says he's been fighting for this for five years and the recent fire was just icing on the cake. "The people in the Western area also pay taxes. I put petitions out in the community. Believe this, this department does not have the community support," said Steve Morris, a Churchville resident.
"Churchville is better than average on its response time, on location time," said Supervisor Tracey Pyles.
Morris turned in a petition with more than 400 signatures. Supervisor Larry Wills said they are already looking into it.
