The University of Virginia is rewarding its employees who have the best ideas to cut costs. UVA launched a website where employees can submit suggestions to make the university run more efficiently.
The website is part of president Teresa Sullivan's "Paying it Forward - Investing in the Future" initiative. The university's Process Simplification Advisory Committee will review the ideas and determine which ones to try out.
"If we can find money to save, for example, it's not just cutting that money off the bottom line. It's reinvesting that back into the core functions of the University," said McGregor McCance, UVA spokesman.
The university will pass out prizes, including gift cards and an iPad, to the employees whose ideas make the final cut. The website is collecting ideas until April 15.
