UVA Looking To Carry Momentum From FSU Win Into Blacksburg

Posted: Updated:

After suffering back-to-back loses, the UVA men's basketball team put together its most complete game of the season on Saturday, beating Florida State convincingly, and improving to 2-2 in the ACC.

The Cavaliers hope to ride the momentum of the 56-36 victory into Thursday's game at Virginia Tech.

On Saturday, the 'Hoos made 7-of-9 three-pointers in the first half.

Joe Harris was 3-for-4.

Paul Jesperson and Justin Anderson were both 2-for-2.

The strong performance follows two defeats at Clemson and Wake Forest.

The Cavalier defense was suffocating on Saturday, holding the Seminoles to just 36 points.

That's the fewest amount of points Virginia has allowed since the introduction of the shot clock in 1986.

The 'Hoos also held Florida State to just 1-of-15 shooting from 3-point range.

Head coach Tony Bennett says, "It's 'Can you go 7-of-9 from three in the first half, can you consistently do that?' No, but you can continue to get great shots offensively. You can always have the effort defensively. We talked about sustaining our defensive and offensive commitment. Those things have to be there. They have to be constants."

Senior point guard Jontel Evans says, "It's the mindset. We have to be focused, and locked in on both ends of the floor. When we're locked in on both ends of the floor, we're a very hard team to beat. When we're hitting shots, and we're up in you defensively, we're a tough team to beat. We just have to continue doing that."

Virginia will take on Virginia Tech Thursday at 8pm in Blacksburg.
