UVA Women's Basketball Defeats Miami 62-52

The Virginia Women's basketball team defeated the Miami Hurricanes 62-52 at John Paul Jones Arena Sunday, January 20, 2012.

The Hurricanes would try and close in on the 'Hoos in the second half but they could only cut the deficit to 5.

The Cavaliers had four players finish the game in double-digit points.

Ataira Franklin scored 17 points, and shot 6-of-8 from the field.

Franklin said, "knowing we had to have an inside/outside game really just prepared us - really helped us. It was just a really good balance tonight and it seemed like everything was going our way offensively and some games that's not gonna be the case but we're pretty solid defensively too tonight."

Franklin also had a respectable 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists.

Point Guard China Crosby had 12 points, and shot 2-for-3 from three-point range.

Crosby added 4 assists and 3rebounds.

Kelsey Wolfe had 12 points with 5 rebounds.

Her teammate, Telia McCall scored 13 points. She also tacked on 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

Head Coach, Joanne Boyle said, "We knew that this could be a signature win for us and I thought that they really did a great job of taking care of the ball and executing and playing great defense."

This game marks the second time these two teams have met in two weeks.

Miami won their first match-up at Coral Gables on January 6, 58-52.

The 'Hoos improve to 12-6 over and 4-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and will take on Boston College in Charlottesville on January 24th at 7 p.m.
