New Movie Theater to Open in Charlottesville

A new Charlottesville cinema is making its debut with a zombie-filled screening.

Bantam Theater will open its doors on East Market Street for the first time Saturday night. The space will be set up with a variety of chairs and couches to offer an informal, comfortable atmosphere.

They will be showing a film called "The Battery," and the director is set to attend the inaugural screening.

"One of our goals with this was to kind of break down the barriers of you go to just your normal cineplex you're conscious of the separations between you, the person watching the movie, and the studio finance picture.  Whereas if you come in here, you might be sitting next to the director," Jayson Whitehead, co-founder of Bantam Theater.

The movie is about two minor league baseball players that are fighting to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.  The screening starts at 7 p.m., followed by a question and answer session with the director.
