Dominion Power Grant Helps Heritage Center Renovate Theater
The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center is one step closer to having a premiere theater.
Dominion Virginia Power gave the heritage center a $150,000 grant to help in the renovation of the historic auditorium. The money will help pay for a surround sound system, a movie theater-sized screen, and seating for the theater.
"It creates yet another venue where people can appreciate the arts, for our part the music that we'll show, have here fits in to this sort of world music niche, allows us to diversify that cultural offering," said Andrea Douglas, representative of the African American Heritage Center.
The space will be used for film series and guest lecturers. People will also be able to rent the space for special events.
