Darion Atkins Out Indefinitely Due To Stress Reaction in Leg
Sophomore Darion Atkins has been hobbled by a leg injury the last few games and now the team has decided to shut him down indefinitely.
Tests this week revealed the 6'8'' forward has a stress reaction in his right leg.
Atkins is third on the team in points and rebounds and leads the 'Hoos with 25 blocks.
He's started twelve games this season but head coach Tony Bennett says the time off is a necessary precaution.
Bennett said, "Off and not pounding on it - it'll heal and we'll see what to do with it and the next step but that's all I got. You know he had just a shin splint before. He was hobbling more and more. As he was having more pain we said lets get this looked at."
Junior guard, Joe Harris, added, "It's tough. I mean, D.A. was having such a great year - this week is great for him to just get some rest and then we'll have three hard days to prepare for Florida State...D.A. is such a presence defensively and I think when he's healthy everybody knows what he's capable of and I think that he's very improved offensively."
The Virginia men's basketball team will be looking to snap a two game losing streak this weekend, as the Cavaliers take on Florida State at John Paul Jones Arena at 4 p.m.
