RICHMOND, VA (AP) - The presumptive Democratic and Republican nominees in 2013's Virginia gubernatorial race each say they've raised slightly more than $1 million over the final six months of last year.
Democrat Terry McAuliffe sent a fundraising e-mail to supporters and reporters Tuesday claiming $1.1 million raised since he announced his candidacy in early November.
Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, a candidate since November 2011, reported almost the same amount and listed $1.2 million on hand.
McAuliffe, a longtime confidante of and master fundraiser for his party's Clinton family, did not disclose his year-end cash balance.
Virginia and New Jersey elect governors this year and serve as early barometers on public attitudes toward the Democratic White House and GOP-ruled House.
