A Staunton man died after an early morning car accident in Augusta County. The accident happened just before 1 a.m. Sunday.
State police say the driver of a Pontiac Trans Am lost control and ran off the left side of Patterson Mill Road near New Hope. The car plunged down a steep embankment and through the trees.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Wonderley was killed. He was the passenger in the car.
The driver, 23-year-old David Valentine from Weyers Cave, was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center. There is no word on his condition.
Troopers said neither man was wearing a seat belt and charges are pending.
