University of Virginia professors are ready to go back to class next week after learning about "flipping the classroom." 160 faculty members and graduate teaching assistants attended a workshop hosted by the Teaching Resource Center Friday.
The seminars encouraged teachers to have students learn the basics at home, and use time in the classroom for active projects.
"If students do preparatory work before - do reading, take online quizzes- before coming into the classroom, the actual classroom time can be used in ways where students are actually problem solving, or having deeply informed discussions," Judith Reagan, senior associate director of the Teaching Resource Center.
The Teaching Resource Center says if the students actively engage with the material in class, they are more likely to master and retain the information.
