Greene County Visitor Center Goes VA Green

Ruckersville, VA: The Greene County Economic Development and Tourism office is pleased to announce that Greene County's Visitor Center has become the 22nd state certified visitor center to receive an environmental certification from the Virginia Green program.

Virginia Green is Virginia's program to encourage green practices throughout the state's tourism industry which is overseen by Virginia Tourism Corporation.

Michele Metz with Greene County Tourism tells us, "It is important our tourists and residents know we are committed to being environmentally conscience and living up to our County's name by truly going green. We have been working on this program for several months and are excited to be one of only 22 of the state's 109 visitor centers participating in this program."

The core activities of the Virginia Green program are:

  • Recycling and waste reduction
  • Water conservation
  • Solid waste reduction
  • Energy efficiency
  • Minimizing disposables
