Churchville Community Hosting Fundraiser for Family Lost in Fire

Posted: Updated:

The Churchville community is rallying behind a family that lost four members in a recent fire.

Gordon Stokes was the sole survivor of the mobile home fire on Bolling Heights Lane near Churchville just before Christmas. His wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson were unable to escape the blaze.

State police are still investigating the cause of the fire.

To help the family with funeral expenses, Glossbrenner Methodist Church will host a chicken barbecue dinner on Saturday.

Pricing and contact information for the dinner:

  • BBQ chicken halves ($4) available at the Churchville Community Park at 8:30 a.m.
  • BBQ chicken dinner ($9) at Glossbrenner United Methodist Church, beginning at 4 p.m.

Dinner will include chicken halves, baked apples, baked macaroni, coleslaw, bread, dessert and drinks. The church is located on Route 42, just south of its intersection with Route 250.

All proceeds will be used for family funeral expenses. Monetary donations and cake donations for the meal will be accepted. For more information, contact Steve Morris (540) 337-7232, or Connie Colvin (540) 337-7286.
