A fire in Churchville this past weekend left the victims with a request for Augusta County supervisors.
Hansford Johnson and his family had a fire Saturday morning that destroyed their garage and injured two people.
According to Johnson, his wife called 911 and the first fire fighters on the scene were from Staunton.
"We waited and waited and never heard the sirens go off at Churchville, never heard tones go off at Churchville. And finally, eight minutes into it, Staunton was the first one in my driveway with the fire engine. And I can walk out my side door and see Churchville Fire Department," he said.
Kristy McComas, with Churchville Fire and Rescue, said, "Normally we have people there that are ready to go out the door. It just so happens at this moment we didn't. We did get there within 10 to 12 minutes. I think the closest person was six miles away."
Johnson wants supervisors to put paid staff in the station 24/7.
