Verona Man Charged with Robbery after Alleged Craigslist Scam

Augusta County deputies say a Craigslist scam has a Verona man facing a robbery charge.

Twenty-year-old Derek Earl Shifflett is accused of robbing a man of $12,000 on Monday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says the victim is a North Carolina man who came to Verona to buy a car Shifflett had listed on the website Craigslist.

But there was no car for sale, and Shifflett allegedly pushed the man and grabbed an envelope with the money. He was arrested several hours later.
