'Hoos Reflect on Big ACC Win Against UNC

Posted: Updated:

The 'Hoos improved to 4-0 in ACC openers under head coach Tony Bennett Sunday, January 6, 2013, with a nine point win over UNC.

Joe Harris was the only Cavalier player in double figures.

He led the 'Hoos with 19 in the 61-52 win.

Harris said, "Its a big win. Anytime you can start off conference play with a win its huge. But we've gotta prepare for Wake Forest. Its a quick turnaround...our celebrating is over."

The Cavaliers trailed by as many eight early in the second half but went on a 19-2 run and took control of the game.

The Cavaliers shot 52 percent from the field in the second half.

UNC Head Coach Roy Williams said, "we were trying to focus and see if we can do a good job on Joe and Joe was really good and I thought Jontel coming back in was good for them. We didn't do the things we wanted to do and we give Virginia credit. They did the things they wanted to do and dominated both ends of the floor - particularly in the second half."

The 'Hoos also played strong defense holding Carolina to a season low 52 points.

Cavalier point guard Jontel Evans scored a season high eight points and had six assists and played for the first time in five games due to a foot injury.

Evans said, "we got a lot of athletic guys but we aren't that athletic as they are. We're just a good sound team that was very physical tonight and I think that everybody noticed it."

Virginia's next game is at Wake Forest Wednesday. Tip off is at nine o'clock.
