The Virginia men's basketball team beat North Carolina 61-52 in their first ACC game of the season Sunday night at John Paul Jones Arena.
The victory ends a three game losing streak against the Tar Heels, and is the first defeat for UNC at JPJ.
UVA Head Coach Tony Bennett said, "I'm gonna give you [the team] 15 seconds to celebrate because we talked about what we wanted to do and I said, you've got 15 seconds...We put the music on and said, lets dance for 15 seconds then we shut the music off. I said - alright we're done."
UNC Head Coach, Roy Williams complimented the 'Hoos, "I think they were better than we were offensively. They were better than we were defensively. They were more alert more aggressive...I just have to congratulate Tony and I told him that at the end of the game - I thought his club was really good."
Junior forward Joe Harris scored 19 points to lead Virginia.
Senior point guard Jontel Evans had 8 points and 6 assists in 21 minutes off the bench, after missing the last month due to a lingering foot injury.
Reggie Bullock had a 22 points to lead the Tar Heels.
Virginia trailed 25-24 at halftime, but used a 15-2 run midway through the 2nd half to turn the tables on North Carolina.
UVA (11-3, 1-0 ACC) returns to action Wednesday at 9 pm Wake Forest.
