The "soup" dinner series sweeping the nation is now coming to Charlottesville.
On Sunday, soup facilitators made decorations for the first Charlottesville soup dinner.
Those who want to participate pay $10 at the door and get soup, salad, bread, pie, and most importantly, a vote.
A number of groups looking for funding will present their creative projects during dinner. The group with the most votes gets the proceeds from the dinner to support their project.
"We like to think of soup as an activity for civic engagement," said Victoria Long, soup facilitator. "So the meal creates a space where strangers, neighbors can come together, share a meal and talk about what the city needs."
The creative groups can range from quilting clubs to bands and indie film makers. The first dinner is Monday, January 14th at the Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative.
