The Virginia women's basketball team beat Virginia Tech 52-48 in their ACC home opener at John Paul Jones Arena Thursday night.
Senior China Crosby had 16 points to lead the Cavaliers, while Ataira Franklin added 13.
Telia McCall grabbed nine rebounds for the 'Hoos, including five on the offensive glass.
Monet Tellier scored a game-high 20 points for the Hokies.
Virginia led by as many as 13-points in the 2nd half, but Tech took at 46-45 lead on two free throws by Tellier with 1:48 left.
UVA would retake the lead with :54 seconds to go, as Crosby converted a three point play after a hard foul on a drive to the basket.
Crosby says, "I was actually going to pull it out, to run an offensive set, but coach B was just waving her hand, and told me to go, and when she said that, I just went, and tried to make a play out of it. I'm glad it went it, but I was really looking for the foul to get to the line and make the free throws. I'm always excited about something like that, so I was just excited about the play."
The 'Hoos scored 7 of the game's final 9 points after falling behind.
Virginia (9-4, 1-1) returns to action Sunday at Miami, while the Hokies (7-6, 1-1) will travel to face Duke.
