Waynesboro rescue workers honored one of their fallen by helping to save lives. The Waynesboro First Aid Crew hosted the first annual Kyle Southern Memorial Blood Drive Thursday afternoon.
Southern was killed last January when the ambulance he was driving slammed into a cement mixing truck on Route 20 in Buckingham County. The EMT was 21-years-old when he died.
"Kyle was such an inspiration to everybody. He touched many lives. He was very dedicated to fire and EMS services. I feel like he would appreciate us doing something to help the community out in his honor," said Crystal Layman, blood drive organizer.
Organizers tell us January is typically a slow month for blood donations. They also say they expected around 100 donors.
