UVA Opens ACC Play With North Carolina

Posted: Updated:

UVA basketball coach Tony Bennett said Thursday his starting point guard Jontel Evans is out of a walking boot, and Bennett says he is hopeful Evans will be able to play in Virginia's ACC opener Sunday against North Carolina.

The unranked Tar Heels have a record of 10-3.

UNC is coming off a 6-point win over 20th ranked UNLV, which is North Carolina's only win this season against a ranked opponent.

The Heels are led in scoring by sophomore James Michael McAdoo, who is averaging 15 points per game.

Carolina has a young team this season, but coach Bennett says they're getting better each game.

"Very talented, complete point guard," says Bennett. "Typical of most North Carolina teams, they have a lot of weapons. They can score inside, they can get up and down. They probably shoot it better this year, than they have in the past. They can really stretch the floor with their shooting, and the pace in which they play."

UVA and UNC tip-off Sunday at 8pm at John Paul Jones Arena.
